S'lindile Wela (Pr. Sci. Nat.)

Geoscientist, Petroleum Agency SA.
S’lindile Wela joined the Petroleum Agency SA in 2019 as a Geoscientist within the Resource Evaluation Department. Her research interests and work projects centre much around the regional assessment of hydrocarbon prospectivity across South Africa’s offshore basins; with more emphasis on the Orange Basin. In her role, she focuses on seismic data interpretation, basin-scale prospectivity analysis, and core logging for stratigraphic and reservoir characterization. She holds an MSc in Mining and Mineral Exploration Geology from the University of the Witwatersrand and maintains professional affiliations with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP), and is a Fellow of the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA). As a geoscientist, her research interests are broad; and she has published in leading-journals on effects of meteorite impacts in South Africa; as well as the structural geology of South Africa’s Orange Basin and Pletmos Basin.
