Mpumelelo Mpofu

Founder, Ubuntu Bethu Compassion Capital Inc. & Originator, Spectrum of the Human Condition®

Mr Mpumelelo Mpofu founded Ubuntu Bethu Compassion Capital Inc. to address a governance gap that ESG and CSR frameworks consistently leave open: not what investment intends to produce in communities, but what communities durably retain in capability, confidence and resilience after the project cycle ends. This is about impact. He calls this the inheritance question — and has developed the Spectrum of the Human Condition® (SoHC®) and Compassion Economics® as the governance architecture that makes it answerable.

His work draws on three decades of operational and executive leadership in England — including executive director roles at a Reuters subsidiary, time in Anglo-American and Caterpillar Inc. — and on the Ubuntu ontological tradition of Southern Africa, where inheritance is understood as constituted through relationship and community, not only through individual economic gain. He is the author of Compassion Leakage and Energy Depletion (2025).
