Angela Opoku Afonope
Mrs. Angela Opoku Afonope is an accomplished geoscientist with over 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, specializing in hydrocarbon exploration and appraisal.
As Head of Exploration and Appraisal at GNPC Exploration and Production Limited Company (Explorco), she leads exploration initiatives aimed at expanding Ghana's oil and gas reserves while overseeing the company's offshore assets and ensuring compliance with petroleum agreements. She played a key technical role in Ghana's first Open Competitive Bidding Round in 2018 and has extensive experience engaging international investors to promote the country's exploration potential.
She holds degrees from the University of Ghana and Imperial College London and is passionate about research, mentoring young geoscientists, and advancing technical excellence and innovation in Africa's energy sector.
Angela currently sits on the Voltaian Basin Project where she is in charge of the technical evaluation of potential exploration targets, the formulation of exploration strategy recommendations for executive management, and the strategic selection of prospective drilling locations for upcoming campaigns. She contributes to exploration strategy in the Voltaian Basin, evaluating prospects and supporting drilling decisions
