Michael Aryeetey is an accomplished energy professional with over two decades of experience in the upstream oil and gas industry. He has built a distinguished career marked by strategic leadership, operational excellence, and a strong commitment to team development. His expertise spans the full exploration and production value chain, positioning him as a key figure in Ghana’s energy sector.

As Managing Director of Explorco, Mr. Aryeetey leads the company’s upstream operations, overseeing exploration, drilling, production, and marketing activities. Under his leadership, Explorco has significantly enhanced its operational performance and profitability while maintaining a focus on innovation, safety, and environmental stewardship. He is widely recognized for his ability to align corporate business objectives with effective operational strategies, secure strategic partnerships, and ensure regulatory compliance and industry standards across all areas of the business.

Mr. Aryeetey has held several senior leadership roles within GNPC and Explorco, including Acting Chief Operating Officer of Explorco and GNPC’s Manager for Exploration & Appraisal. He served concurrently in both capacities, where he was instrumental in formulating and executing operational strategies, leading negotiations with international oil companies, and driving key exploration initiatives across Ghana’s sedimentary basins.

With his extensive technical background in geoscience and project management, Mr. Aryeetey has been at the forefront of advancing Ghana’s upstream capabilities. He has played a critical role in attracting investment to the sector and has consistently promoted innovation, capacity-building, and knowledge transfer within his teams.

Over the years, Mr. Aryeetey has made significant contributions to national energy policy and governance. He has served, and continues to serve, as a member on several high-level national oil and gas committees, including the Ghana Negotiation Team for Petroleum Agreements, the Upstream Block Application and Evaluation Committee, the Ghana ITLOS Team, and various Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) teams.

Mr. Aryeetey holds an Executive MBA in Project Management from the University of Ghana, a Master of Science in Petroleum Geosciences from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Ghana. He is also an active member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG).
